James Miller is an early pioneer of open-sourced reporting and citizen journalism and extensively reported the conflicts in Syria and Ukraine. He is the former Managing Editor of The Interpreter where he reported on Russia, Ukraine, and Syria, and the former editor of the “Under The Black Flag” column at RFE/RL which provided news, opinion, and analysis about the impact of the Islamic State extremist group. He is a contributor for The Daily Beast, Foreign Policy, Ahval, Reuters, The Atlantic Council, and other publications.

His new blog, The Casual Analyst, is focused on breaking down complex issues of the day for the general audience and closing the Strategic Communications (STRATCOM) gap between the institutions that have kept us safe for eight decades and the citizens of the West.
